Alexandra Pelosi’s Friends of God Documentary February 14, 2007
Posted by ejtower in Bible, Christianity, Evolution, Jerry Falwell, Ted Haggard, Video, creationism.2 comments
In this Documentary produced by HBO, Alexandra Pelosi travels around the United States taking a look into the lives and teachings of the evangelical christian culture. The Documentary features such importaint and interesting evangelicals as Ted Haggard (speaking again very ironically about sex lives), and Jerry Falwell.
A synopsis of the documentary can be found here on HBO’s site. Unlike the documentary makers of Jesus Camp who sought to keep themselves seperate and unquestioning of the people they were filming, Alexandra Pelosi’s style is more of an interview where she asks the pointed questions that people who question the evangelical movement would really like to ask. You can get an idea about the style of the documentary by watching below…

Site Review - Nick Gisburne (Gisburne.com) February 13, 2007
Posted by ejtower in Atheism, Nick Gisburne, Site Reviews.add a comment
So because Atheism News now has a slightly better Google factor about Nick Gisburne than his own site does, I thought it would be best for everyone to check out his site where you can find a number of his videos, and his thoughts on the whole YouTube problem.
If you have a YouTube account and want to go crazy uploading Nick’s videos he provides a number of different formats of his videos for you to download to your computer and upload to YouTube fairly quickly.
Show your support for Nick in any way that seems appropriate to you.
YouTube Atheist Nick Gisburne February 11, 2007

The following video has created a major uproar on the internet in the last twenty-four hours as Atheist Nick Gisburne was banned for creating it. In responce many youtube folks have gone nuts copying and re-publishing the video all over the internet. The video itself is a fast paced nine minute listing of every instance of Cruelty in the Koran. Over at Digg Nation this story has been getting a great deal of attention, they are talking about a revolution to bring him back. Click Here To Join The Digg Avalanch. I will do my best to continue to have an embeded version of this video for as long as I can.
There is at this time a major question about if he was banned because of his views, or because of the use of copyrighted content. If it was the copyrighted material, the question then becomes why did they single him out, and not the ten thousand other people who also are using copyrighted material?

For those of you who have not yet heard of this documentary produced by A&E Indie films, it is high time you check it out. Now released to DVD the documentary is a shocking look at the inside of the Devils Lake Bible Camp run by Becky Fischer. This film includes the ironic footage of Ted Haggard saying “I know what you did last night, give me a thousand dollars and I won’t tell your wife.”
The film also raises such questions as those that Richard Dawkins has asked. Is religious indoctrination child abuse? I suggest you watch the film and ask yourself.

In this video, Richard Dawkins is interviewed by the Rational Response Squad while on his book tour for “The God Delusion.” They discuss how scientists and atheists should and should not engage theists in discussions about god, evolution, and irrational theist ideas. Again the idea that religion should be subject to criticism as political, economic, or artistic views are subject to criticism.

Feedback Requested: How are we doing? November 6, 2006

Dear Readers,
When I started this blog a few weeks ago I did not realize that many of you would be quite so interested in reading it. Though that is the nature of the new media world that we live in; what I think matters very little, your showing up tells me that I am doing something right.
The goal of this blog is to help you sort through the thousands of atheism related sites that are out there by pointing you towards ones that are worth your time. We are currently doing this by looking through the massive video archives found on google, youtube, and other places to find you worthy videos to view. We are also reviewing websites that we think are worth while, though we do those much less frequently because we have day jobs.
So here is what I would like to know as editor here… (more…)

In this video Paul Doeman explains that he is an atheist, and that he actually does not believe in anything. He continues that he cannot understand how adults believe in god, and the complete lack of quality questioning of belief on the part of theists. More over he believes that it is not atheist books that lead people away from theism, but theism itself. In his own words:

Site Review - Kissing Hank’s Ass and Other Parables October 30, 2006
Posted by ejtower in Atheism, Bible, Christianity, Debunking, Religion, Science, Site Reviews, Video.comments closed
The Rev. James Huger of the website JHuger.com offers us a number of interesting atheist parables that many in the strong atheist crowd will find excellent for explaining the atheist points of view to the faith-headed. His website offers us these parables on his website, but also most interestingly in PDF pamphlet form for anyone who might be interested in starting a door-to-door evangelical atheism campaign.
Perhaps his best atheist parable is “Kissing Hank’s Ass” in which he writes out a detailed conversation that takes place between two door-to-door evangelists proclaiming the benefits of Hankist belief, and the home owner. This story merely takes the standard conversation you might have had with Mormons or Jehovah’s Witnesses, and adjusts the names and proclamations a bit to make it one hilarious and illustrative parable.
Mr. Huger’s “Kissing Hank’s Ass” has become so popular that the people at Nimpsy made it into a short movie. (See Below)

Site Review - Xenu TV October 26, 2006
Posted by ejtower in Atheism, Religion, Scientology, Site Reviews, Skeptics, Superstition, Video.comments closed
For many atheists who engage in the public criticism of religion, the scope of the word religion is narrowly defined to “Christianity, Islam, and Judaism.” However, somewhat outside of the scope of these atheists lay other smaller religions which may in fact pose a greater threat to intellectual freedom than traditional religion, depending upon where you live. One such greater threat is the religion of Scientology. To bring us information on this threat is Mark Bunker, Producer of Xenu TV.
This is one man who has seen what happens when you are publicly critical of The Church of Scientology, and he’s managed to get most of it on tape!

The topic of Superstition, as it relates to life, science, and freedom, is thoroughly explored in this 1898 work by Robert G. Ingersoll.
“There were centuries of darkness when religion had control of Christendom. Superstition was almost universal. Not one in twenty thousand could read or write. During these centuries the people lived with their back to the sunrise, and pursued their way toward the dens of ignorance and faith. There was no progress, no invention, no discovery. On every hand cruelty and worship, persecution and prayer.”

This Atheist Life - Al Brenner Poem October 25, 2006
Posted by ejtower in Atheism, Religion, This Atheist Life, Video.comments closed
In this video, Al Brenner performs a superb poem at The Key West Unitarian-Universalist Fellowship titled “I am an Atheist.” In this poem Mr. Brenner offers us humor, lyrical word play, and a sample of his musical skills. Yet his verse keeps a serious point that all Atheists can appreciate. This life is what matters, not the fictional one that some believe will come after.
Al Brenner has a website where you used to be able to see his other videos, but as of this date his site has been hacked by a group claiming to be Arabic Computer Hackers. Though we do not know if he was deliberately targeted because he was an atheist, it would not be too surprising. His website is http://www.alseye.com
